Production Engineer - Biologics
This is an onsite position.
Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine Department , Worcester, MA is seeking a highly motivated engineer to join a dynamic team supporting biologics drug discovery and biologics engineering. We are hiring for the High Throughput Antibody Production team that supports the delivery of recombinant therapeutic proteins and the development of automated solutions for biologics. In this role, you will make an impact to drug discovery through technology innovation and custom engineering.
For this posting, we are seeking a talented engineer with a strong mechanical or electrical engineering background. We leverage automation to push the bounds of how fast and how many molecules we can make. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in lab instrument automation, CAD design and scripting to accelerate and streamline antibody production and characterization workflows. Qualifications
Educational Background:
- BS, MS in mechanical/electrical/chemical engineering, computer science or related field with 5-7+ years (BS), 3-5+ years (MS) of pharmaceutical and/or relevant experience
- Expert knowledge in custom design and production of components/labware to support protein production automation. Familiar with CAD design software (Onshape, Solidworks). Hands-on experience in 3D printers (Bambu, Prusa, Formlab, etc.).
- Proficiency in hardware and software operation and maintenance of liquid handlers (Hamilton, Lynx, Tecan) and robot arms.
- Familiarity with C#, Arduino or python scripting for instruments and data automation.
- Experience in integration of actuators and sensors for lab instruments using microcontrollers is highly valued.
- Knowledge of general biologics production is preferred
- Keen ability to initiate the automation discussion and collaborate across the broad BGM department
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proactively think and discuss novel ideas to improve the production and characterization workflows.
- Build relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of the team to enable higher performance.
- Learn fast, grasp the essence and can change the course quickly where indicated.
- Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8-hour day)
